St Illog, Hirnant |

There has been a place of Christian worship on the near-circular Hirnant cemetery site since its foundation by St Illog in the 6th century and Hirnant first appears in the record of Welsh parish churches in the 13th century.
The original stone church was built in medieval times, but fell into decay in the 19th century. In 1892 the building was almost completely restored using many fixtures (oak panelling, altar rails, windows and belfry) from the old church at Llanwddyn prior to its demolition.
Just over a century later, the church building was once more in a poor state of repair, but members of the local community decided to restore it and also convert it into a dual-purpose building for the inhabitants of Hirnant.
This work was completed in 1999, and the church building is now regularly used for community events and religious services. A charitable organisation known as Cymdeithas St Illog Hirnant Community is responsible for its management.
