The Church of St. Ffraid lies on the northern edge of the village of Llansantffraid-ym-Mechain, about 8 miles north of Welshpool
Situated to the south west of Oswestry just across the Welsh border in Powys, Llansantffraid is a village dominated by an agricultural works, “Wynnstay Farmers”. The village is linear and lies parallel to the disused railway. Over the last few years there has been building development. The village has a collection of pubs and restaurants, shops, a school (Aided), community centre, church and chapels. The village is renowned for its football pitch made famous by T.N.S. The community is generally rural and a number of caravan sites on the edges of the village promote tourism.
A fuller description of the church and its place in the community is given in its web site.

The church’s dedication to St Ffraid (otherwise known as St Bride or St Bridget), together with its location on the edge of the Cain valley, point to an early mediæval foundation.
The present church building would appear to have a 12th century core that was extended in the 14th century. The South Porch and the bell turret were added in the 17th century and a North transept in the 18th century. The exact sequence of the development of the church is, however, unclear.
