The Deanery of Llanfyllin is a group of 14 Church in Wales churches (Anglican/Episcopalian) serving the rural border community embracing the upper & middle Tanat Valley, Cain Valley and the area around Lake Vyrnwy. The Deanery stretches from the Berwyn Mountains in the West to the English border in the East.     More below

Our deanery is part of the ancient diocese of St Asaph and is the most northerly of the four deaneries that constitute the Archdeaconry of Montgomery. The deanery has a rich tapestry of Welsh culture and many people speak Welsh.

The deanery forms a natural unit centring on the small town of Llanfyllin where there is a wide selection of shops, a leisure centre, High School, emergency services and offices of the local authority.The bigger towns of Oswestry and Welshpool are nearby and Shrewsbury and Wrexham are about 40 minutes away.

We are fortunate to live in such a beautiful part of the world. The rolling hills of Montgomershire, however, cannot hide the problems that face us as communities, such as the limited employment opportunities for young people; high property prices and low incomes; an aging population and declining agricultural industry.

Despite these problems there are many joys in living in such caring and close-knit communities as ours, which contain many talented people who offer much to benefit the good of the area. Often our church members are not only involved in Church activities but are also busy in all sorts of other activities ranging from community councils, school governors, sport and charity work.
